Five Tiny Things Getting Me Through This Week
This week holds something on Thursday that I’d rather not face alone. I won’t go into details, but it’s one of those appointments where your heart races a little faster than usual. In the midst of that, God has been kind to give me small moments of joy and peace—tiny lifelines that remind me He’s near. Maybe you’ve had weeks like that too.
Here are five tiny things carrying me through:
1. A Soundtrack of Peace
Lately, I’ve been writing my cozy romantic comedy, and the soundtracks from some of my favorite films have been the perfect background inspiration. If you know Nancy Meyers movies, you’ll know the charm of Father of the Bride and The Holiday. Add in Love Actually (the score, not the soundtrack) and the 2005 Pride & Prejudice, and you’ve got my playlist. “Maestro” from The Holiday and “Annie’s Theme” from Father of the Bride have been on repeat, reminding me of simpler times and even childhood memories. I like to think of it as God’s way of giving me moments of peace before Thursday arrives.
2. Verse-by-Verse Reflections
I’ve been leaning on daily verses from my Bible app and devotional. Each morning I take the verse of the day and carry it with me—reflecting on how it can shape the way I respond, breathe, and trust. It’s simple, but it turns the entire day around when I focus on Him these small reminders of His promises.
3. Cozy Rituals (with a Side of Property Brothers)
Red grape cider in hand, my dogs curled up beside me, and a cozy show playing—that’s been my reset button. Sometimes it’s Friends, sometimes it’s a house-flipping marathon with the Property Brothers (I call it research for my WIP!). These moments may seem small, but they remind me to inhale, exhale, and embrace the gift of rest.
4. Word Games & Words of Comfort
This one might sound a little odd, but I’ve been expanding my vocabulary with games like Wordle and Contexto. As an author, I’m always using a thesaurus, so it’s been fun to see how words connect. There’s something surprisingly calming about chasing after the right word—it eases my mind and gives me a playful break from overthinking (which I’m superb at, by the way).
5. The Gift of Shared Prayers
Finally, I’ve let my family and close friends know about Thursday, and having them pray with me—and for me—has been a huge burden lifted. Just knowing I won’t walk into that day without a circle of love surrounding me has brought me a peace I can’t explain.
These little joys have made all the difference in the weeks leading up to this Thursday. Maybe you’re in a similar place—facing something you’d rather not—but God is slipping tiny gifts into your days too.
